About Me

Pilates Exercise Instructor

Learning the Pilates method truly complemented my background originating in sports and massage therapy. Having worked in the health and fitness industry for many years alongside differing healthcare professionals I now mainly specialise in my Pilates exercise work. Passionate about it as both a mind and body combined exercise methodology I truly believe that Pilates can be absolutely for everyone!

I currently teach 1:1, 2:1 and small groups, Pilates apparatus, run local classes, provide seated exercise in care homes and specialist exercise classes for Older Adults and people with MS (multiple sclerosis).

Some of my past experience includes; Work in a Health Spa, Pilates Studio, multi-disciplinary clinic work alongside Chiropractors, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists and also Neurological Physiotherapists at a centre for people with MS (multiple sclerosis).

Apart from having helped many people throughout my career, a couple of highlights have been, the opportunity to work with some of the Paralympics in 2012 and also to have worked abroad.

Pilates exercise is a mind body technique which teaches you and emphasises all movement to commence from your centre core stability. Utilising the body’s own strength, muscle flexibility, co-ordination and by bringing and creating a focused mind and body awareness throughout all the exercises. As a regular exercise it can help improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility as well as relieve stress and tension.

All the exercises have been developed and originate from Joseph Pilates exercise method known as 'Contrology'. A programme of exercises can be tailored specifically to an individual's requirements. For elite athletes Pilates can complement their training by developing whole body strength, flexibility and help reduce the risk of injury. Emphasis is on the quality of the movement and not the quantity of repetitions.

Many healthcare professionals are recommending Pilates exercise now and there is some evidence that Pilates can provide pain relief to people with non-specific lower back pain.

So, Pilates really does have something to offer everyone of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. Before starting any exercise programme it is advisable to seek advice from your GP or health professional especially if you have any health concerns or injuries.

I am continually updating my professional development within the industry, fully insured and a Fellow member of the FHT.
